Domaine Besancenot
2011 Beaune Premier Cru Greves
The top wine for Domaine Besancenot, Beaune Grèves is a classic Pinot Noir: elegant and balanced, ample and harmonious. Best after 5 years, it can keep for 10 to 20 more. Combine with other Beaune premiers crus from Domaine Besancenot for an instant introduction to the subtleties of French terroirs and vintages.
Somewhat restrained but with a lovely nose delicately scented with earth, musk, sandalwood, vanilla, cinnamon, and red fruit. Excellent balance of concentrated, layered fruit and piercing acidity makes this wine immediately appealing on the palate, but it seems quite young still. Wine to linger over if uncorked early in its life, as it will open up considerably in the glass, while the good fruit and core of balancing acidity suggest this wine will also improve greatly with more time in bottle.
Food pairing: Duck; lamb; roasted chicken; earthy, mushroom-scented dishes
